"STATES OF INCLUSION" RELEASE
As you know, the East Coast is digging itself out from a historic blizzard. Unfortunately, this means our report release on Monday, January 25, 2016 at the Ford Foundation in New York is ***cancelled *** due to the inclement weather.
While the event is no longer taking place, the report, "States of Inclusion", will be released online tomorrow.
As the federal government continues to suffer from partisan gridlock, American state legislatures are relative hotbeds of policy production for immigrant integration. Yet, the demographic composition of American state legislatures is drastically lopsided.
There are far too few representatives from the largest immigrant communities, Latinos and Asian Pacific Americans.
How can we narrow the representation gap so that states can be both more reflective of, and responsive to, American demographic changes?
The New American Leaders Project conducted a first-of-its-kind national survey of sitting state legislators to shed light on the unique obstacles that New Americans face in winning a seat at the legislative table. Join NALP for a presentation of the survey findings and a discussion of strategies to make the political system more accessible to all.
